A friend brought this over for me to check out to see if it is worth saving. The motor id sticker on the side of the transom lamp is all scratched 15 hp johnson outboard motor ,cant read it. All i got is the serial on the welch plug which is G, and these photos. It is a long shaft.

How to they compare to Yammie? I've got a Johnson GT, which was sold as a 10hp but uprated to 15hp. I guess that's effectively the same as the one you're looking at. I also have a Yamaha 15hp. There's not a lot to choose between them but I would pick the GT if I had to make a choice. I'm not saying a Yamaha or Mariner are better performing but in general they will be easier to sell on and hold their value better. The price is a bit strong for this time of year. I reckon you'd be lucky to get any 15hp 2-strioke in good condition for much less than a grand. Used a couple of small Johnsons including Johns over the years. They are evinrude in a differant colour. You'd be doing well to find another 15 2 stroke for that money in decent condition - as JOhn said the 10hp was also derestricted and sold as the GT putting out about 15 hp.

Dave -i know for sure that the kill switch on the end of the tiller is expensive and kinda hard to change. I have two s that have the kill switch half way up the tiller where your green pen is pointing to. Having the kill switch in the cowl like that is the simplest, cheapest, and most reliable set up….
