Inevitable are the steak and the peposo. The quality for the tavern comes first , in fact using only raw vegetables into cuisine. The tradition is honored by the early classics like ribollita, pasta e fagioli, Mugello, tortelli vegetable minestrone, lasagna and tagliolini with truffles.

Like many restaurants that get good reviews from RS, the 4 Leonis has fallen into a complacency of becoming full of themselves, and falling short of their past accolades. Our dishes were skimpy in portion, and way overpriced for what we received. The pear raviolis had 8, yes easily countable, 8 pieces of small puffs of pasta. While tasty, it was not worth 14 euros by Italian standards and compared to other restaurants of equal, if not better quality. The shrimp scampi was shrimp skimpy and bizarre with the heads on shrimp plopped on top of pasta, hollowed out with no meat in them. Our waiter was nice, but seemed to expect a tip after the 7 euro service charge. Based on reviews I've read left by Italians, there seems to be a double standard at this restaurant for locals and tourists. I can not recommend dining here as I think it has lost its luster. We are early diners, so we walked up at , and ate dinner on the outdoor patio with the other Americans. I highly recommend that restaurant.

The Trattoria i 4 Leoni is located in Piazza della Passera a square you won't find on any map since it is small and an intersection of other streets , just a few steps away from the Pitti Palace. Finding it is not easy but you won't be sorry if you make the effort.

It was recommended by one of our tour guides and did not disappoint. It was also overflowing with local eaters at lunchtime, a great Bayram welcomed us and was super helpful with recommendations. Located between Ponte Vecchio and Piazza Pitti, Trattoria 4 Leoni owes its name to the Canto ai 4 Leoni , between Via Toscanella and Via del Velluti, where bas-reliefs of four lions in pietra serena adorned the corners, one of which is still visible today. With boundless energy, Stefano Di Puccio has turned 4 Leoni into something much more than a simple Tuscan trattoria, instilling in the establishment a definitely contemporary and elegant character. Weather permitting, you can eat outdoors amongst plants and flowers that look out onto Piazza della Passera. Here, as once all over the Oltrarno district — perhaps the only one that still preserves intact the most authentic character of a city that risks drowning in tourism — you can still find restorers, frame-makers, blacksmiths, carpenters, wood-carvers, decorators, and antique dealers.

Staff were very kind and friendly despite us coming quite late and being the last ones out. My friends and I had a similar experience to the OP at 4 Leoni. Spent a month in Firenze and 4 Leoni was the only place we ate more than once. Like the entire Oltrarno district, this treasure chest of history and magic still hosts the botteghe of restorers, frame-makers, blacksmiths, carpenters, wood-carvers, decorators, and antique dealers, just as it has through the ages. Hoping my descriptions have made your mouth water for this place, take out your map and ask at your hotel to have the location of 4 Leoni marked on it so that you can make your way there on your future visit to Florence! It wasn't terrible but definitely not memorable and nothing we wanted to return to.

I love finishing the meal with one of the home made desserts on offer, from the cheesecake to the chocolate and pear cake or often the traditional Cantuccini with Vinsanto , which are biscotti cookies meant to be dipped in the sweet wine. Even if with difficulty, I often make space for dessert. From March to November you can eat outside on a nice terrace on piazza della Passera , surrounded by plants and flowers. Its best to let RS know.. The staff is fun and casual, very welcoming. I highly recommend that restaurant. Make sure you make a reservation! That may make it touristy, but we didn't hear much of any language except Italian when we were there. One note, however, about the shrimp. Within the 5 minutes , we were seated at a lovely indoor table, and greeted by the most charming waiter, Mossimo. PS portion sizes are much smaller in Europe.. My friends and I had a similar experience to the OP at 4 Leoni. We couldn't get a table outside but inside space had a great ambience, so all good.
