I was just wondering this as it seems the original Super NES version can never be topped, and especially not by a GBA port with an inherently reduced screen resolution and sound quality. But are all those reasons alone enough to make it better than the original game?

While A Link to the Past is largely a faithful port of the original, it does include an entirely new dungeon and a new quest as rewards for the player playing through the multiplayer-only Four Swords. Aside from these additions, it includes a number of smaller gameplay and dialogue changes, the latter of which are designed to correct a number of minor translation mistakes and inconsistencies with the original Japanese release and to unify the common terms used with the later games. The Game Boy Advance version of A Link to the Past has not been released again in any form, nor have any of the changes made been carried over to the Virtual Console releases. The Game Boy Advance port of A Link to the Past features a semi-new and more faithful translation in the game's localization. Several strings of in-game text were changed and a few expanded, and are paraphrased differently from the original text. A few names and references were also changed to remain consistent with the rest of the series; most notably the Seven Wise Men now being referred to as the Seven Sages and the Hylia referred to as Hylians. The prologue in the game's intro was expanded and explains the Imprisoning War in greater detail. Among other significant changes to the dialogue, Link's Uncle no longer says " Zelda is your When starting a new game in A Link to the Past for the first time on a file, the story of the Imprisoning War and the rest of the prologue is displayed before the rest of the game begins, and cannot be skipped.

The cartridge contains a modified port of A Link to the Past , originally released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in , and an original multiplayer-only game titled Four Swords , which serves as the 9th installment in The Legend of Zelda series. A stand-alone port of Four Swords was released for a limited time on Nintendo's DSiWare service as The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition [b] on September 28, , which includes new content, such as a single-player mode and additional areas. Four Swords is the multiplayer portion of the cartridge. Four Swords features gameplay similar to A Link to the Past , with a focus on multiplayer; in it, two to four players must cooperatively work through a series of puzzle-laden dungeons, while competing to collect rupees. The player with the most rupees at the end of a level wins a special prize, though all rupees are shared together in the long run. All players are given respective colors — player one is green, player two is red, player three is blue, and player four is purple. Once all players are connected, player one chooses one of the four stages available to play on.

While the controls for combat are simple, there are several techniques which can be used to improve your skill and beat enemies more effectively. The enemies you encounter will reoccur throughout the game. Because of this, you should learn what each enemy does: how he fights, his attack patterns, etc. This will be particularly useful later on in the game when you meet stronger versions of familiar enemies. Since these new enemies will use similar techniques to their weaker cousins, you'll have a heads up on what to expect. Your main weapon in ALttP is your Sword. Most enemies can be taken out with just your Sword without wasting any magic, B ombs, or arrows. Your Sword will never run out like these items, so use it as much as possible. While the Ice Rod uses magic power, the Boomerang, Magical Boomerang, and Hookshot do not, and all of these items can stun an enemy temporarily, making them a vulnerable and less dangerous target.
