As a young boy, he attended Bandys High School , where he was on the football , track and field , and wrestling teams. He went through a significant growth spurt in high school; he was 5 ft 8 in 1. He spent the next four years playing football semi-professionally for the Hickory Hornets, supplementing his income by working as a doorman and mechanic. In the late s, he began competing in amateur strongman competitions. On January 24, , Strowman appeared at the Royal Rumble and scored among the most eliminations in the Royal Rumble match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship , eliminating five opponents before being eliminated by Brock Lesnar , only to return to the match and help his fellow Wyatt Family members eliminate Lesnar. I love the art of professional wrestling and eight years with WWE was very time-consuming. I was very, very blessed with the opportunities that I had. I got to see the world and all these things. But it's been nice having these last six months to take a step back and breathe for a second. I forgot about all these little things in life that mean so much. Time flies by and you forget about it.
