Also, we had a baby in December, adb 40k. Firstly, I finished Echoes of Eternity last year, back in September. Right now, adb 40k book exists somewhere, drenched in delicious secrecy, imprisoned in the metaphorical chains of scheduling. Perhaps this admin-based embrace makes the text all toasty and warm?
This is a difficult book, not only because of the wealth of lore much of which subtly shifts from edition to edition, meaning you need to choose what to focus on and run with that , but also because of the 40K comedy memes that do the rounds, just like in any fandom. Abaddon, however, gets hit hardest by a barrage of misunderstandings, and lore that remained fairly vague in the past. What I can offer today is something a little fresher. From the source, so to speak. Over the course of all these exchanges with various people who thankfully took the time to lay out a bajillion words and share their insights with me , a lot of the back and forth discussions revolved around just what it means to be Warmaster of Chaos.

I say that as someone who put off reading that novel for the longest time because I wasn't really interested in a bunch of religious zealots like the Word Bearers. So I read every other HH novel that was out to date at that time, which was around the time of Battle for the Abyss kind of dreading the point when I'd have no more HH books to read but that one. So I went into it with a more than healthy bit of trepidation and despite that it just blew me away. It does such an amazing job of humanizing the fall of Lorgar, from being humiliated in front of his legion by The Emperor to going on his pilgrimage to the legion's eventual descent into Chaos. However, if you want something a little more one-off, I'd suggest either Cadian Blood or Emperor's Gift. Helsreach wasn't my personal favorite, though I did so enjoy the way he played Andrej and Grimaldus off one another and I don't want to give the impression it was a bad book, it just didn't grab me quite the way his other works have. His Night Lords trilogy started off a touch stiff, but got better as it went along. Which is also my favourite novel. Probably FH.
I very much walked away seeing this as favorable to the Space Wolves rather than the Grey Knights, adb 40k.

On a more personal note, I was also coming off a run of novels focusing on extremely well-known characters and vastly important historical events The Talon of Horus ; The Master of Mankind ; Black Legion … so I wanted something more personal and grounded. Being defeated, and clawing back from that defeat every time. And so they continue to dangle the carrot, continue to be his patrons, giving him daemonic power and servants, ordering their mortal representatives to debase themselves and serve his will, all in the hope of snatching the final victory of Abaddon for themselves. Right now, the book exists somewhere, drenched in delicious secrecy, imprisoned in the metaphorical chains of scheduling. Abaddon, and by extension the Black legion never seemed all that dangerous, you know they would win the battles, but would ultimately lose the war, sure they might get a few new toys that they could use in the next crusade. But like many, he find it easier to blame and hate instead of feeling shame of failing his father. What if the institutions you serve are increasingly corrupt? I mean just as you during your research poured over every piece of source material you could find, so too will future writers of future Codex iterations use this book as their source material. They can only come together in dominance, not subservience. Yet they never do. It contained alot of cool stuff about the Grey Knights, but it also contained a bunch of stuff I disliked or disagreed with. His entire style, was to go for the shock and awe alpha strike on the enemy and decapitate them. It is the Office Politics of Hell.

The novel places the reader in the unique position of judgement its characters can't afford, and I regularly found myself debating the rights and wrongs of each organisation in my free time. But relatively speaking, in terms of my writing process — it went great. Abaddon has been fighting uphill wars for 10, years against a huge force that knows he is coming. He sees the Primarchs disappear, fade, die or simply not care anymore and he understands that only a man can really rule other men. Black Crusade, do damage, get limited goals, followers drift off, regather their strength, come back for next one, rinse and repeat getting a little further each time. And I think this story has the potential to do him justice, finally. Aaron Dembski-Bowden Don't worry. How did you figure out making the jump from real world experiences to science fiction and applying it in the way you did? But really, their names were Ariel Lawrence and Ellie Pyle , and they lovely and blessedly generous with their ideas. I have actually discussed that with the author before, and it very much wasn't his intention to have it one-sided in any particular way. Terra will never bow to his will. Which leads neatly into…. That is a one cool post. Comment by Suicide-Man August 23, Reply.
