I also really like that I can keep my trekking poles on the side when I don't need them, rather than reaching around, having a buddy help, or taking off my pack.
Just incase you missed the news, Nims has recently finished his ground breaking challenge and, by climbing the 14 metre peaks in only 7 months, has completely smashed the previous 7 year record. I was also intrigued to see that Nims had used an Osprey Aether 70 Pro pack for his ascents. A 70 litre pack seemed quite big, but I knew Nims often ended up carrying quite a lot of his own equipment. I also knew of the Aether to be a very lightweight pack and so wondered how well it might stand up to the rigours of expedition life. All in all, I thought this was a pack I needed to find out more about and Osprey kindly sent me one to test. Here is my review…..

It has a loop for attaching trekking poles while hiking: a great idea, but very difficult to use. I'm shaped kinda weird narrow shoulders, thick chest and needed significant finagling to come up with a pack that fit and felt good. Fit-on-the-Fly system for adjusting the shoulder strap and hipbelt padding is very effective at customizing fit and results in excellent support with minimal sway. There is a sleeping bag pocket and sleeping pad straps. The ability to remove the bladder without opening the pack makes things easy and you needn't worry about packing it first before the rest of your pack. What I read online sounded like it fit the bill, but it wasn't adjustable at all and the shoulder straps rubbed my neck and it had 0 padding. The water bladder pouch is easily accessed making refilling the bladder easy good design change from earlier packs where the bladder was stored inside the pack. This molds the hip belt padding to your hip bones for a custom fit. Lots of varied terrains. I also noticed some sweatiness along the hipbelt and shoulder straps as a result of the thick padding. This pack has fit like a glove since day one. Added to Cart. I do like to have my gels held in there rather than in my short pockets. The other thing I would like would be a few more pockets for separating out my gear.

I have used this pack while hiking and traveling. My experience with some of the vaunted ultralight packs is that they are only good when you are able to keep your load ultralight. Very well designed storage and accessory pockets. Put it on and be ready to be amazed; that is if you can even feel it! I was told you should get the belt formed before hiking, but it performed great. Also wished it had a couple more smaller zippered pockets on the sides or back, but the benefits out weighed these little cons. This is my second Osprey pack retired the first after 18 years. Osprey has a reputation for building comfortable packs, and the Aether line is one of their best. Enhancements you chose aren't available for this seller. The cost and weight savings are certainly appealing, but we consider the Aether Plus to be the more capable and confidence-inspiring heavy hauler. It has a loop for attaching trekking poles while hiking: a great idea, but very difficult to use. The capacity is perfect for multiday treks in the winter months, when you need to carry more warm gear. Added to Cart.
