The Aldwych Theatre dates back to It was designed by W. Sprague in the Edwardian style to match the Waldorf Hotel and the Novello Theatre formerly Waldorf , which all stand together in the same block. The theatre is named after the Aldwych, the crescent-shaped street that branches from The Strand. The show tells the true story of Turner's rise to fame, and Tina Turner musical tickets still fly out of the door with audiences from all over the world attending. Throughout its history, the Aldwych Theatre has been home to many successful musicals and plays.

Sprague as a twin building to the Waldorf Theatre, now known as the Novello Theatre , the theatre was founded by Seymour Hicks and an American impresario: Charles Frohman. The theatre opened on the 23rd of December with a new version of the popular pantomime Bluebell in Fairyland , renamed Blue Bell. From the theatre hosted a series of farces, knows as Aldwych farces, that were mostly written by Ben Travers. The piece was later on adapted for film, starring Leigh and Marlon Brando, for which the British actress won an Academy award. Although it was planned that the residency would last for three years, in the end the company stayed at the Aldwych Theatre for over 20 years until it moved to the Barbican Arts Centre in Since the theatre has staged many plays, big scale musicals and comedies.
It was surprising how many stairs you had to go down to get to the stalls. However the seats when we got there — in the dress circle had a restricted view — very disappointing!
Built in as one of a pair, together with the Novello, the Aldwych theatre has been restored in keeping with the grandeur and opulence of its legendary hotel neighbour. The auditorium of the Aldwych is beautifully adorned with Georgian-style reliefs in the period-specific colours of green and gold. Exactly seats are split over three levels; stalls, royal circle and upper circle. The auditorium takes its curved shape from the stage, delivering excellent views of the action. The stalls section in divided into three quadrants by two aisles on the left and right side of the house.

Rows curve gradually around the stage, which can allow for excellent views from the centre and varied views from the ends of rows.

Had rather good seats quite by accident in that handy row in the Grand Circle that has loads of legroom and is by the entrance to the bar. Generally unremarkable. Rear Block: Aside from the discounted "restricted view" seats at the end of row D - always a bargain - the rest of row D is preferable to the rear stalls row Q back since more of the stage is visible from here, even at the same price. No one is behind you so you can get up and dance, stretch your feet and there's plenty of room to put your feet up as well. Also had plenty of legroom. Choosing seats in general Front Section: Seats in rows AY to H are all fine - shorter folk may wish to avoid the very front row if the stage is high, though. Luckily, the overhang of the dress circle is very high up and doesn't obstruct the view from even the very back of the stalls.
Help us get a photo from every seat - add your photos. The Stalls are divided into three sections, with two aisles either side of the central block. The front and centre provides the best overall sight-lines, but the first three rows can cause neck-ache due to a high stage.
Take AZ instead, and if you must go premium then no further back than H - taking the outer bits to avoid the really expensive centre. On the plans below: Seats in GREEN many feel may offer either noticeable value, or something to compensate for a problem; for example, being a well-priced restricted view ticket. I have to say the view was great and it was raked so that not even the person in front could have blocked your view. The pairs in the side blocks next to the aisle on O are also worth a look. Row Z in particular is worth a look, as it is against the back wall of the theatre, and positioned so that seat 2 has a view straight down the aisle in front, 3 is nearly as good and so is 1 - provided you realise 1 has been angled oddly so you have to sit slightly round in your seat to see straight down the aisle. Most are also not conventional "tip up" theatre seats, but fixed down.
