A Necromorph variant of the mysterious alien species once native to Tau Volantis, these menacing, alien necromorph, strong beasts stand around 7 to 8 feet tall a little over 2 meters tall and are very similar to human-created Brutes in overall size, appearance and behavior. The torso of the creatures has been split open to allow the ejection of Crawlers at prey. Their skin is mottled and rotten, and the digits on the alien necromorph have rotted down to the bone, producing scythe-like alien necromorph.

Necromorphs are a collective of undead creatures in the science fiction horror multimedia franchise Dead Space by Electronic Arts , introduced in the comic book series of the same name. Within the series, the Necromorphs are constructed from reanimated corpses and come in multiple forms of various shapes and sizes. They are violent creatures driven to murder and infect all life within their vicinity by a signal emitted from mysterious alien artifacts known as Markers. The Necromorphs' creation and design were led by Ben Wanat, who served as production designer on the first Dead Space and creative director of Dead Space 3 , though the team did not initially settle on the Necromorphs as the main antagonistic threat. Wanat's wife came up with the term "Necromorph" at a whim later in the development of the original Dead Space ; the team found it useful as an internal reference, but decided to limit its usage to a minimum as it does not match the serious tone of the video games series' narrative. The artistic direction on the various strains of distorted Necromorph monsters drew inspiration from seminal works such as John Carpenter 's The Thing , System Shock , and Resident Evil 4. The Necromorphs are intended to instill a sense of unease from the player's fleeting glimpses of their former humanity, though later games introduce other variants made from non-human biomass like dogs and alien lifeforms. Each Necromorph form is intended to have an improvised aesthetic, with body organs crudely repurposed or modified to increase its capacity for grievous bodily harm of its victims. For example, a Necromorph form may have bone shards that have broken into teeth-like protrusions which are not literally teeth, or possess wings which are organs that have been bent backwards and stretched. The design process involved with creating a diverse variety of Necromorph forms posed some unique challenges for the team, with some forms requiring a redesign in order to function practically within certain levels and environments. The limitations of the in-game engine also presented a major influence over the design process, requiring team members to come up with solutions which work around these restrictions or discard certain Necromorph monster concepts altogether.

The Necromorph was a lone, mutated Xenomorph that terrorized the V testing facility on Jericho 3. The Brute is a large Necromorph composed of multiple human corpses. It has heavy organic armor in its front and possesses extreme physical strength, making it a deadly foe in combat. Its posterior is relatively unarmored, and from it sprouts a pair of vestigial arms used for support if one of its main arms is cut off. The chest is a sack where the Brutes produce highly explosive organic material, made from the similar material as the yellow weakspots as well as a hole in the middle of the chest. The Brute bursts out these projectiles when its limbs are severed, not being able to attack properly.

The Ubermorph was a unique Regenerator -type Necromorph encountered on Titan Station during the final moments of the outbreak as well as a possible Hive Mind variant. The Ubermorph is a tall, bipedal Necromorph that resembles a Slasher in body shape and proportion, while several of its other features bear a strong resemblance to those of the Hive Mind encountered on Aegis VII. The Ubermorph's head is connected to its body by a short, stiff neck, and its face features five glowing eyes. The Ubermorph's bulky torso supports two massive arms, and sports a pair of claw-like appendages on its abdomen. The bone structure of the rib cage is clearly visible both on the front and rear, with the back also sprouting small arms. The Ubermorph utilizes its two enormous arms, each ending in three long claws, to impale, slash and mutilate its prey. The creature has the ability to regenerate lost tissue, mass and bone at an astoundingly rapid rate, making it virtually impossible to kill; this ability is shared by the Hunter , a Necromorph created by Dr. A common theory is that the creature is an early stage of a Hive Mind's life-cycle: the Necromorph's head, chest and antenna-like appendages protruding from its back are very reminiscent physical features to the Hive Mind found on Aegis VII. Another point to suggest this theory is true is that Hive Minds are Necromorph commanders, controlling the intelligence of Necromorphs in a certain region and the Ubermorph might demonstrate this when Isaac opens the bulkhead door to the Government Sector , as the Ubermorph slowly walks among the charging Slashers , Pregnants and Pukers.
