From covering MTV pop culture and sports to documentary work and environmental journalism, Canadian celebrity Aliya-Jasmine Sovani has travelled the world as a TV host, producer and journalist. How much travel is involved with your work? What destinations has your career taken you to over the years? Journalism has taken me all over the world, but some of the stand-out moments were travelling to Haiti after the tragic earthquake; to South Sudan after the civil war; and to the middle of a remote rainforest to investigate a controversial pipeline. What are some of your most memorable travel destinations? My best friend and I took a trip to Italy for my 30 th birthday, and we spent a week in Sicily.

Even as a four-year-old, Aliya Jasmine knew she wanted to be a broadcaster. After graduation, she wrote for Canadian magazines and newspapers, but her first job in the broadcast world was as a cable wrangler for Fashion Television. She moved up the production ladder from a production assistant to a segment producer to a producer at MTV Canada. She also created a documentary series called Impact , where she shifted her storytelling to hard-news subjects. Jasmine also freelanced for other outlets. After the earthquake in Haiti, Discovery Channel sent her to cover the aftermath. Then, in , having spent time in Los Angeles on press junkets, she decided to make a change, take a risk and move to L. She began to question what she wanted to be in the second part of her career. Was it too late to get into news full-time? Learning from professors who were also working journalists helped her approach her own work with a fresh lens.
