Ambiguous Situation : At the end, it's not really clear if the Helltaker actually created a real harem of demon girls, or if he just ended up with a bunch of rowdy demonic roommates. Either way, the guy seems to be happy with the result. Anti-Hero : The protagonist is motivated solely by the fact that a harem of demon women sounded like a cool idea. Badass Normal : There's not much indication that he has any supernatural powers, yet he still somehow got into Hell so he'd obtain a harem of demon girls. Casanova Wannabe : His dream is to build a harem full of demon girls and he uses some lines to convince them that sound a lot like cheap pick-up lines. Covered with Scars : The Pancake Recipe Comic shows him with various scars around his body, most of them probably gained from the girls.

All comics so far seem to support him not really being in a relationship with any of the girls, and being happy nonetheless.

It was released in May for Microsoft Windows , macOS , and Linux , and is described as "a short game about sharply dressed demon girls. The player proceeds through a series of puzzle stages with the end goal of reaching a demon girl, answering her question appropriately, and incorporating her into the player's demon harem. Each puzzle stage involves pushing stones and skeleton soldiers around a two-dimensional top-down grid akin to Sokoban while keeping within a set turn limit, while also avoiding spike traps and collecting key items. The final boss level featuring the demon Judgement, the High Prosecutor includes phased bullet-hell -like mechanics with chains across the screen. Narrated by Beelzebub, the plot follows the player character, known only as "The Helltaker," in his descent to hell to acquire a harem of demons. As the game progresses, the harem becomes increasingly dysfunctional, with the Helltaker admitting that all he can offer is "coffee, turn based strategies and chocolate pancakes.
