I learned to embroider when I was a kid, when everyone was really into cross stitch remember the '80s? Eventually, I migrated to surface embroidery, teaching myself with whatever I could get my hands on All Rights Reserved, antique pattern library.

This ongoing project is an effort to scan craft pattern publications that are in the public domain, to preserve them, so we can keep our craft heritages in our hands. Most of these scans have been graphically edited to make the images easier for craft workers to see, and to reduce file sizes. They are available, for free, to anyone who wants them, for educational, personal, artistic and other creative uses. Small stapled 12 page booklet, covers included. One page 6 of actual instruction, all others about how to order wool, special offer packages, testimonies of customers, offers of employment and other advertising content.

There are so many great crochet resources on the internet, but one of my favorites is the Antique Pattern Library , a collection of scanned needlework books that are now in the public domain. I love perusing the patterns from the early Twentieth Century. So many beautiful things!

One thing that often crops up on the blog, and on my social media, whenever I post anything to do with s crochet is the fact that people seem to struggle to find patterns to use for their own projects. I hope you find this list helpful too. A huge collection of free crochet patterns from the early to midth Century all taken from original crochet booklets and magazines. With over patterns to choose from, and continually added to, you be hard pressed to not find something you like. Lots of different types of patterns are available from clothing to accessories and from a plethora of home accessories to Christmas decorations. PDF reprints of complete booklets or magazines are also available at a tiny cost and often contain knitting patterns too. Focusing mainly on the popularity of crochet at the very beginning of the 20th Century, this site offers a good selection of booklets and single patterns.

Mostly whitework: names, borders, corner designs, two alphabets, two pages of braiding patterns, a page with four simple scattered motifs, and several very complex monograms. Early 20thC book about tatting, 64 pages not including covers. Richly illustrated with items to decorate with tatted edges, corners, and motifs. Tablecloths, childrens caps and clothing, doll clothes, ladies lingerie, bags, and even a lampshade.
