Available on Saturdays between 10am-2pm, The Apollo Arms dishes out brunch favourites from the staple smashed avocado on sourdough, to eggs Benedict and the trusty royale. Understanding that quality is key in the ruthless hospitality landscape, Hubert, Oliver, and their team have nurtured relationships with local producers to execute seasonal menus that showcase the best locally sourced produce. Rejoicing all that is great about the often-overlooked nostalgia of British dining, at The Apollo Arms, expect to see familiar English classics twisted with international flavours. This sits alongside dishes that have become so popular across the capital across the last decade, notably including tuna sashimi and burrata. I visited for the evening with some friends, walking through the space that embodies a contemporary interpretation of the quintessential pub to the garden at the back for an al fresco aperitif. Seated at our table inside, we ordered a selection of starters to share. Influenced by Europe but made mostly with British produce, this included the steak tartare with truffle mayonnaise, herb leaf salad and crispy egg, foie gras and chicken liver parfait with white wine jelly and toasted brioche and a large burrata served with basil, chives and crispy shallots. And for many a moon Clapham was strictly a first place. A dormitory suburb for young professionals, with a sprinkling of bars and restaurants to tide you over between schleps into town. Clapham High Street is a noisy, boozy, bustling neighbourhood, while things turn more gentile in Abbeville Village and Clapham Old Town, both with a sophisticated food scene. New launches keep coming include Baba Oasis high street , Havana Coco — cocktail bar and Red Vine, the restaurant next door. Enter Oliver Marlowe and Hubert Beatson-Hird, with an established reputation for delivering innovative and compelling hospitality. The night we visited it was chucking it down, which is a shame as the rear garden has a rep for being much fun for sundowners.

From steak tartare to honey salmon, and classic beef burgers to oysters, The Apollo Arms has something for everyone on the menu, including a selection of vegetarian options. For my starter, I chose the burrata with sauce vierge, basil, chives and crispy shallots, and Emma chose the scallop, crab, and basil raviolo with lobster bisque and leek fondue.
