This telling of Snow White, which has a steampunk theme and fabulous music from shows such as Dear Evan Hansen, Newsies, High School Musical, Spamalot, and Descendants is guaranteed to put a smile on your face at a time when everyone needs cheering up. Director Emily Friedrichsen praised all who have worked on Snow White, whether on stage or behind the scenes. Snow White features a cast of almost 30, ranging in age from 22 months through to 70, and with the Society's inclusion policy, meaning anyone who wants to be involved will be given a place in the production, all who are part of this year's show have made a huge contribution to the telling of this wonderful story. Theatre in Ararat has been strong since the late s, with Ararat Theatre Company formed in the s and Ararat Musical Comedy Society in and between them they have performed hundreds of musicals, plays, theatre restaurant productions and one act plays over that period. The groups have produced many performers who have gone on to have professional careers in theatre and the performing arts, but more importantly have encouraged a love of music, acting, dance and production development in the local community. Former Ararat Theatre Company president Charlie Millear said it was logical that the two groups join and combine assets, resources and members. The newly formed group will be known as Ararat Regional Theatre Society Incorporated ARTS after more than 80 names were submitted for selection by members of both former groups. Based on the film of the same name, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang tells the story of an eccentric inventor named Caractacus Potts who, with the help of his children Jeremy and Jemima, sets about restoring an old race car from a scrap heap. Soon, they discover the car has magical properties including the ability to float and take flight. However, trouble occurs when the evil Baron Bomburst desires the magical car for himself. Along with Truly Scrumptious, Caractacus and the children head to Vulgaria to rescue Grandpa Potts who has been kidnapped by the bumbling duo, Boris and Goran and rid the kingdom of its tyrannical, child-hating rulers. With a fantastical flying car, a heart-warming love story, and a whole bunch of teamwork, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a fun-filled musical for all the family.
