I find you have to experience it first hand and decide for yourself. This fall, Katie and I were talking about getting me a new ski jacket because mine is 6 years old and worn out. Katie decided to go ahead and get me this jacket. The catch? I have to write a gear review! My winter activities mainly include backcountry skiing, resort skiing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing. I prefer to have a jacket that will perform well in all activities. Here in Canmore, it gets down to C regularly. The Rush IS jacket was designed to be a warmer version of the Rush shell jacket. The Rush IS provides more protection between you and the elements. This Gore-tex design provides a lighter, softer more packable jacket without sacrificing water resistance.
This places it solidly in the midweight category, somewhere between belay parkas and summer puffies. And stacked up against other popular but uninsulated backcountry shells, the Rush IS still fares quite well. The jacket has effectively shrugged off all the abuse with no fading, loose threads, or other concerning signs of wear to date.

The company recently started using this fabric in insulated layers, and it scored major points with our testers for lightweight durability. Case in point: the material never showed a scratch while getting roughed up around basecamp or when testers donned ice axes and crampons. And yet, despite its summit chops, this jacket offers surprisingly good breathability. But testers deemed this a worthy investment for those who spend multiple days per week in the mountains. In fact, one of our testers has eight puffies in her gear closet, yet she reached for this one at least four days a week.

Across the board, the Rush scores highly in every way a shell jacket should. It is extremely weather-resistant, comfortable, fits supremely, and has enough features to get you through a day in the backcountry. It excels in style, pushing a modern, sleek, yet bold look into the backcountry style market. Our metrics for ski jackets prioritize warmth, but shell jackets are not designed to provide any warmth. Rather, they are meant to be worn over a mixture of mid- and base layers depending on conditions. In an ideal world, the shell only provides weather protection and leaves warmth up to other garments. This is the case with the Arc'teryx Rush , which provides very little warmth. It is about as warm as the other shell-only jackets we have reviewed. Of course, every fabric we drape over ourselves will provide a small amount of warmth. This is because we naturally heat any air trapped around our bodies, insulating us against the cold winter air outside our jackets.

Packages up to cm can be delivered to a parcel point. On those cold windy days, the Gore-tex shell provides superior shelter! The left upper arm pocket means when we visit hills like Panorama or Big White, where they use the RFID readers, we can breeze through the gates. I take it to the resort, in the backcountry, while snowmobiling, and recently, on a week-long dogsled trip in snowy Minnesota. Inside there are two additional pockets which are great for key and phone storage as well as keeping gloves or a buff warm on stand by.
