Because of this, the Greenhouse Effect increases the crop yield per unit of fertilizer. A fully upgraded greenhouse needs to be larger 3x3 or more. Build 2 walls these do not have to be greenhouse , then build Greenhouse Ceilings over the entire area. Sloped or flat does not matter. With large structures, this could take adding walls to different sides to even it out.

Crop plots must be placed under a greenhouse ceiling to receive the bonus. The greenhouse ceiling must receive unobstructed sunlight. The only way to test unobstructed sunlight is to see if you can fill your water jar when standing there during rain. If so, you can use a greenhouse ceiling there. You can use greenhouse ceilings in place of foundations or floors and put crop plots on the ceilings. Crop plots on ceilings will only get the greenhouse boost if there is also a ceiling above them. So, if you use only ceilings, you could do 10 ceilings as floors, have stone walls 2 high is best so you can walk over the plots, 1 high will mean you need to crouch and then have 10 greenhouse ceilings above the original 10 ceilings. Greenhouse pieces that are not connected - This only happens if you have a break in the structures, like putting two 4x4 greenhouses next to eachother with none of the pieces of the 4x4's snapped to each other.

Like I'm thinking a simple 8x8 over the ocean I live on a beach with a instant drop into deep water Its my perma base, I like it where I live, so is 8x8 a good idea?

Building a greenhouse is simple once you get used to it. Just place foundations, build a greenhouse around it, and add crops. Then, all you need is fertilizer and an irrigation system. So it will take a while to gather materials for your first greenhouse. The materials needed for the crop plots are easy to find. You need to go out and get it.
