Though Assassin's Creed Mirage is designed to be the next main entry in the franchise, it's not really pushing the series forward in terms of mechanics or setting, and instead is acting like a return to basics, which many fans seem incredibly excited for. From stealth to parkour to combat to map design, almost every element of Assassin's Creed Mirage has been paired back to give fans that old-school feeling, and in the process of achieving that, Ubisoft may have inadvertently paved the way for an Assassin's Creed 1 remake. The main focus of Assassin's Creed Mirage from the very beginning was to deliver fans a classic Assassin's Creed experience that hearkened back to the series' original formula, and more specifically, the very first game in the series. Though the recent Assassin's Creed RPGs have been well-received by most fans and critics, a lot of long-time fans were desperate for a smaller-scale adventure to balance things out, and that's exactly what Assassin's Creed Mirage does. Though Mirage carries over some newer elements like equipable gear, skill trees, and skill-based combat, it puts the emphasis firmly back on stealth gameplay and scales the narrative back to just one main character and one main location.

Still, speculation continues, and with good reason. The struggle between these rival groups and their quest to recover the missing artifacts extends through the arc of the game series, becoming richer and more complex. The game also took the stealth component of action-adventure gaming to new heights, making eavesdropping, pick pocketing, sneaking, and silent killing center points of the action and key to completing missions and side quests successfully. These gameplay elements remained in later games of the series, though they became less important more recently as the franchise embraced the open-world RPG model.
