Castle was among the most popular and creative procedural mystery shows of its time. While there are more than a few ongoing series about detectives, cops, and lawyers that solve crimes, the premise of Castle was a unique one. The series starred Firefly actor Nathan Fillion as Richard Castle, a famous author known for his iconic mystery novels that revolve around the fictional hero Derrick Storm. Even though Fillion and Katic had excellent chemistry when they were on-screen together, the filming process for the show was far more hostile. Her grandfather was an amateur magician and frequently visited with her to the famous Drake's Magic Shop after school in her early teens, resulting in her fascination for the art. While she came to respect the value of his unique perspective on crime, she remained frustrated with him on a personal level. This frustration reached a boiling point when Castle, against Beckett's wishes, re-opened her mother's murder case. She was angry and hurt and requested that he ends their relationship. Only when he apologized and agreed to end the partnership did she relent and offer to let him stay " A Death in the Family ".
