Logging roads had been pushed to m elevation on the southern slopes and a trail had been built to access Blanca Lake. Our friends and their five year old had driven up a bit earlier, keen to get an early start as usual. When we made our final turn onto the little logging road that would take us to the trailhead, we were surprised to see their car parked right there!

There is parking available here for about 20 cars, but the lake's popularity, particularly on weekends, often results in far too many cars for the small lot and access road. As you climb, you move swiftly from one steep but well-designed switchback to another, and yet another, gaining a little under 3, feet in a little under 3 miles.

The views were immaculate and the water was freezing. Overall a great hike, fall colors are still out, mushrooms are in abundance and a quiet trail for a friday.

Blanca Peak is an easily hiked summit located northeast of the lake, offering panoramic views in a truly remote region. While Blanca Lake is located closer to Whistler than Squamish, access is from the Squamish Valley Road and indeed is the most challenging part of this trip. You will be driving a full 40km along forest service roads in order to access the trailhead, taking around 3 hours from Vancouver.

An SUV can likely make it to the E spur road, and indeed up most of it, but you will likely have to park further down the E spur as the road deteriorates, increasing the distance and elevation gain of the hike. Blanca Lake has been growing in popularity due to the sheer beauty of the lake and the region as a whole. There are multiple lakes in the area to explore, and plenty of ridges and bumps to leisurely saunter around while soaking in the panoramic views.

Try this Generally considered a challenging route. This trail is great for hiking, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are August through September.

About the lake, water is cold, the lake is similar to Lake 22 but little bigger. There are many fantastic views along the hike to Blanca Lake. We were the only people up there today. If the trailhead is too full, don't despair! Duane Mach. Arrived at on Sat, Sept 30th and lot was mostly full except for some parallel parking availability. Hit ice about 2 miles up. No, not the one in Washington State. Nice camping spot by Blanca Lake We set up camp right by the lake, and the kids ran off to play by a nearby tarn. The best times to visit this trail are June through October. Our party of two went up on September 31, and had two grizzly bear encounters same bear.

Later we realized that it was smoke rolling in, causing the sun to look like an orange fireball, and leaving us with a smoky smell for the rest of the trip. The downhill after Virgin Lake is technical at points and was slippery. The views were still pretty sweet. The wasps may have been dormant due to the temp and less activity on the trail. App-based driving directions aren't always accurate and data connections may be unreliable as you drive to the trailhead. The bugs weren't too bad, which was a bonus. We anticipated some slow show on the roads so agreed to meet up at am at the church in West Vancouver. The softness of the trail combined with the angle of the terrain sure made this a very enjoyable jog. The views were immaculate and the water was freezing.
