These caves are characterized by large Bloodroots that grow on walls and ceilings, carrying large pustules of Blood Oil on their thick stems. The caves also feature many decorative bioluminescent flora and cavern formations stalagmites and stalactites. Small Bloodvine stems also grow abundantly in the area with their bioluminescent roots always on display. The Northern Caves are much more open compared to those of the Trench, but retain the Bloodroots and Blood Oil on its walls. Crabsquids and Ampeels can be found in these caves as well. The Blood Kelp Zones are special biomes in Subnautica , characterized by their depth, darkness, and abundance of giant Bloodvines , some of which carry Blood Oil pustules at the base of their stems. The more confined spaces may make it more difficult to avoid them if one is not careful. It consists of a single deep trench with natural rock bridges spanning from one wall to another, and a small cavern system located below the Bloodvines where their roots can be found. One of the Wrecks can be found in this area, stuck between the trench's walls. This zone is considered unsuitable to explore with the Cyclops due to the trench's narrow width, and an ill-equipped Prawn Suit may get stuck due to this biome's sheer depth. Gel Sacks can only be found in the deepest area of this biome, below meters, in the section below the wreck.

Bloodvines are a flora species that dominate the Blood Kelp Zones. An oily substance called Blood Oil accumulates on can be harvested from their stems. Bloodroot is most likely the roots of Bloodvines. Bloodvines are very tall and thin, emitting a bright bioluminescent white glow. It grows on the seabed, attached to an extensive root system. The central stalk, or pipe, is surrounded by bare kelp blades but the top-most ones have many smaller protrusions. At its very top, there is a small mouth-like opening. A close-up of the opening in the data bank entry reveals teeth-like structures in this opening. Blood Oil can be found on the ground or nearby its stems and can be used for farming to grow Bloodvines in an Exterior Growbed or stacked Alien Containments.
