Not as gory as expected just a gross concept that might give you an uneasy feeling, such a sad movie, I loved it.

As downbeat and violent as this film is, there are still messages to be found about how marginalized people find comfort together, and the pain experienced by those who hurt others. Lee and Maren are relatable and tragic characters.

When she returns home spattered in blood, her father tells her to pack whatever she can in three minutes so they can bolt before the cops come. This is clearly not their first such hasty departure. Kajganich switches the gender of the parental roles from the book. He says he recognized her scent as a fellow feeder from a mile off. An oddball who refers to himself in the third person, Sully gives her tips on how to home in on someone near death, providing sustenance without the need to kill. But as they start traveling together, including a visit to his kid sister Anna Cobb in Kentucky, he reveals a sweeter side that almost imperceptibly yields romance.

Do we read to be entertained or to learn? Do we want our assumptions questioned or validated? Most books take one side or the other, but the very best novels side-step conventional categorizations. Sixteen-year-old Maren is unable to overcome an inborn desire to eat anyone who lusts for her too much, and she has spent much of her life avoiding the consequences of this curse. Abandoned by her mother, Maren goes on the road in search of her father and her future.

Literally how. This book is so, so much more than it's recognizable parts. The ultimate sacrifice. The movie just broke the record for the longest standing ovation ever at the Venice Film festival. No remorse? DeAngelis writing is absolutely stunning. You already know why Monserrath Mon. One second Travis is chill the next he's what? Because I didn't see any plot really actually I just didn't care about this book, so why would I bother to decipher the plot. And that was one of the reasons this book was boring. Its amazing how you can sympathize with Maren considering she eats people-- Bones and all.

This is the real evidence of the "otherness" DeAngelis is showing us. Such a heavy horrific story should have staying power, but this failed to stick to me. Sign me up. Rate this book. See our review. As the book progresses, the author vaguely implies that the main character isn't a regular lol cannibal, but rather an eater , aka a person that simply gobbles up other people. All of the characters appear superficial and fake, there are no logic or life behind their actions, they strictly follow the plot.
