While our own young man, the wonder from down under — Adam Clarke — might refer to this vehicle as a Brumby, most of us would refer to it as a BRAT: a B i-drive R ecreational A ll-terrain T ransporter. This one is a four-seater: yes, it has jump seats! The next owner has some work ahead of them if they plan on making this BRAT look like new again. No, really. Sadly, this BRAT is one year away from having had the famous third-eye passing light, better known as the Cyclops light. The interior is in rough shape, as a lot of vintage Subarus are.

Ok I'm wondering if the 1st Gen Jump Seats are legal to use on the road? I live in Colorado, I'm sure I would be fine using them off road. I want to know if anyone has ever gotten a ticket on the street. Let me know your thoughts. Check with local LE. My county sheriff said no restriction for adults seated on floor or in oem seats, law must have had Brat in mind but minors aren't allowed over 25 mph. The seller shows a few underside photos and it appears that the floors have been repaired, sort of, and undercoating is everywhere. The BRAT was sold from through and they were all four-wheel-drive.

Subaru got around this by adding — 2 — jump seats in the bed of the BRAT so they could be classified as passenger cars instead of trucks. The jump seats went away in the US after and a lot of insurance companies make BRAT owners sign a form promising to never let anyone ride in those jump seats. For the record, this example does come with the jump seats. The third eye was only available for the model years. Ok, there should be a 4 here: the legendary spare tire mounted above the engine. There are several theories for that spare tire placement: 1 The boxer flat-four engine allowed the room so it freed up extra trunk space. I would like to add a 4: it looks cool and unique, a trademark of almost any Subaru. Are there any BRAT fans out there? As a never ending theme with me , price is way out of whack.

The passenger side strut tower is all but disconnected from the chassis, look at the missing material at the fender ledge. Has there been a movie made about that yet? Being a belter, Rust Belter that is, this Brat shows your typical low buck understructure repairs, and a severely compromised floor pan. There are a couple of cracks in the dash under that sneaky dash cover, but otherwise, it looks great inside. Enjoying Barn Finds?
