The Comedy. Running since , the awards provide an accurate gauge of the most loved modern British TV and radio comedies as every single programme is included in the nominations list for our vote it was different shows! There is no biased jury or naive judging panel involved here - just comedy fans. Each year in January we open the polls, and tens of thousands vote to select their favourite shows. Every British comedy show that had at least one new episode broadcast between the 1st January and 31st December in the year is included in the nominations list unless a series spanned the New Year period, in which case if it was the show's only series in the year it'll be nominated in the first of the two years. In each of the categories, those voting can choose their favourite show, plus select a second and third favourite. The favourite selected gets three points, whilst the second and third favourites gets two and one points respectively. After the first round of voting, the longlist in each category is cut down to a shortlist of the six programmes with highest number of points. A second round of voting then takes place, where comedy fans select who should win in each category. They are also asked to name their Comedy Of The Year, from the shortlisted options. In the first ten years of the awards - , rather than three votes, users were given a first and second choice vote in each category, and one 'worst' option.
