My God, these are almost pornographic. What did the parents think of?? I completely agree with you.
T he Richard Prince photograph of Brooke Shields that Tate Modern recently withdrew from the exhibition Pop Life, after Scotland Yard suggested it might break obscenity laws, travelled across the Atlantic carrying a long history of controversy. It shows a year-old Shields, oiled and glistening, naked and made-up, posing in a marble bathtub with a seductive danger that belies her years. It tells you everything about what we fear and desire. Prince, Schorr tells me, has never met Shields. Intent on questioning notions of authorship and originality, he rephotographed an existing image that had already inspired two years of legal debate. It was one of a dozen images of Shields designed, according to Gross, to reveal the not-so-latent sexuality of the prepubescent child. Prince enshrined it as a kind of coda to celebrate freedom of expression.

In an interview with The Times , Brooke Shields spoke about her upcoming documentary about her life. The actress also reflected on posing nude at the age of 10 for Playboy magazine's Sugar and Spice, and her mother's role in encouraging her to take on these gigs at such a young age. In the interview, Brooke spoke about a specific moment in her documentary when she tells her daughters Rowan, now age 19, and Grier, age 16 that unlike her mother, she would have never allowed them to take on the roles that she did as a child. Brooke Shields speaks out on life in her 50s—'we get better with age'. And by virtue of protecting her, I was justifying everything, and that solidified that bond between us. Speaking about the nude photographs that were taken of Brooke for an erotic magazine when she was 10 years old, the actress admitted that she previously defended her mother's decision to encourage her to do the shoot. It was her that I was protecting. Brooke added that making this documentary allowed her to look at herself in a different way. I had to contend with so much at such an early age, and there was resilience, but also I put on blinders as a defence mechanism. The trailer for this documentary includes some disturbing clips of how Brooke was sexualised by the press at a young age and Brooke admitting, 'I'm amazed that I survived any of it. Also did you know that Brooke Shields posed like that, and in similated nude sex scenes in films such as Pretty Baby and The Blue Lagoon? I am sure she as an adult can herself see they are inappropriate.
Brooke Shields was just 10 when photographer Gary Gross took photos of her posing nude in a bathtub in Wearing heavy makeup and nothing else, her body was later displayed in a series of shots published in Playboy publication Sugar and Spice. At the time she was just a little girl with her bare body splashed across the pages of a glossy magazine, but just a few years later she'd star in her first film role that would kick off her acting career. It's almost ironic that her character in that film, Pretty Baby , was a child prostitute. But the sad truth is that at just 10 years old, Brooke had no way of knowing or understanding what those nude photos meant, or how they would affect the rest of her life. Surprisingly, her mother Terri Shields was on board with the shoot, as she had long dreamed of her daughter becoming a star.
Garry Gross November 6, [ citation needed ] — November 30, was an American fashion photographer who went on to specialize in dog portraiture. Born in New York, Gross began his career as a commercial photographer, apprenticing with photographers Francesco Scavullo and James Moore and studying with master photographers Lisette Model and Richard Avedon. His fashion and beauty photography has been featured in numerous fashion magazines over the years and his work has appeared on the covers of such magazines as GQ , Cosmopolitan , and New York Magazine. Gross studied with the Animal Behavior Center of New York and became a certified dog trainer in , [3] using that training to begin working with dogs and creating Fine Art style portraits. Gross was the photographer of a controversial set of nude images, two containing full-frontal nudity, taken in of a then ten-year-old Brooke Shields , with the consent of her mother, Teri Shields , for the Playboy publication Sugar 'n' Spice. The images show Shields standing and sitting in a bathtub while wearing makeup and oil. In , Brooke Shields attempted to prevent further use of the photographs but in a US Court ruled that a child is bound by the terms of the valid, unrestricted consents to the use of photographs executed by a guardian and that the image did not breach child pornography laws.

Before she had even hit puberty, Brooke Shields was one of the biggest names in s Hollywood. At first a child model, her breakout film role was at age 12 when she starred in Pretty Baby as Violet, a child prostitute in New Orleans. The film turned Shields into a teenage sex symbol, a representation that led to a number of trials and tribulations over the star's life. Now she's sharing the truth behind the tabloids in Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields , a two-part documentary directed by Lana Wilson , who also helmed Taylor Swift's documentary Miss Americana. The first thing that's established in the documentary is that Brooke Shields has been stunningly beautiful since she was born. It's this supernatural beauty that led her mother Teri Shields to push her into modelling at just 11 months' old. The first half of the documentary is largely dedicated to the horrors Shields endured in Hollywood before she could even drive. Shields breakout turn was in Pretty Baby at age 11 , a role where she was filmed nude twice and at one point, paraded around a stuffy room of men who bid hundreds of dollars for the rights to her virginity. Her co-star Keith Carradine was 29 years old at the time of filming, with Shields recounting that the adult Carradine was her first kiss. This doesn't count'.

I only have issues with the heavily made up picture as it is visually sexualizing a child — the others make Brooke look more like an innocent child. They do imitate adults, but not normally erotic photo models, which is the mimic-genre of these photos. It is art for people like me. One thing to make a point and another to go over board with your statements. Prince enshrined it as a kind of coda to celebrate freedom of expression. It is a picture of a naked girl with make up on.
