There are several factors that can play a role in a bunny ear cactus developing brown spots or black spots, some of them can be treated and some really cannot depending on how bad it gets. A very common mistake people make when growing a Bunny ear cactus is that they straight up water way too much, especially in the winter season. There is some misleading information out there that says you should be watering every week and this is exactly what could be causing brown spots or black spots to form on your cactus. This amount of overwatering can and will lead to root rot or at the very least, make the roots inefficient at taking up water over time, leaving brown spots, black spots and other discolorations to appear over time. This can also cause your Bunny Ear cactus to droop. Unfortunately, if you dig deep you may see that your Bunny ears has developed root rot, which you can tell by the smell of the roots becoming a bad odor and if the roots are black and mushy then your cactus may be long gone. Solution: To prevent overwatering, water once a month during the winter and only a few times a month at most during the other seasons, or when the soil feels completely dry. Although cacti in general are acclimated to warm and sunny locations, there is a chance that you have a sunburned bunny ear cactus. This can happen if direct sunlight is magnified through glass windows or similar reasons which will cook your plant. So if you notice your bunny ear cactus developing brown spots or turning slightly brown, then take a look at how your lighting situation is going and correct it by moving your cactus to a different location that still gets good light, but not as intense as before.
