Calculate geodesic dome
If you enter a measure in feet, your results are in feet or, in the case of floor area, square feet.
Tweet Navigation. Dome calculation tools Below are links to various dome tools for calculating strut lengths, floor area, panel sizes and other useful measurments for building geodesic, segmented and other types of dome. Five in one tool Use this tool to find out floor area, diameter, surface area, circumference and volume of a dome. Not quite finished Trapezium calculation tool Use this tool to find out the strut lengths and panel sizes to build a trapezium panel dome. Wind load calculation tool Use this tool to find out the total wind load on any size geodesic dome.

Select Hub Size: Select "No Hubs" to get the true "chord" length for each strut, which is the full distance for the strut between each geodesic dome vertex. For most dome construction methods, you will use the "No Hubs" selection. When using our Hubs, the width of our Center Ring must be added to the strut length to give the true geodesic dome dimensions. These hubs are used with 1" PVC pipe for struts. Select Super 6" Hubs for calculating domes with our new 6" Super Hubs, which have a 3. These hubs are used with 1. Select Mega 8" Hubs for calculating domes with our proposed 8" Mega Hubs, which will have a 4. These hubs will be used with 2" PVC pipe for struts. Feet or Meters Click the button for "Meters" if you are using metric measurements. Data Entry: Enter a number with or without a decimal fraction in any of the number fields on the left.

NOTE: If you enter a measure in feet, your results are in feet or, in the case of floor area, square feet. Same goes for meters. When entering in feet, decimals are fractions of a foot or square foot for example: 2.
After a year of living and camping in the desert, Patrick and I decided to build a geodesic dome structure to provide us with shade and shelter from the elements. Simple picnic tents and EZ-up shelters that are commonly used just won't cut it in this desert environment. Strong and gusty winds often blow in unexpectedly and are known to mangle inadequate structures without regard. We chose to build a geodesic dome because of its inherent stability and natural resistance to strong winds. First we did some research on dome construction to see what materials would be needed. Geodesic domes are comprised of a network of triangles that form a somewhat spherical surface. We found that there are several dome classes that are referred to as 1V, 2V, 3V etc. The more complex the network of triangles, the more spherical the geodesic dome and the higher the class number. A 1V dome has fewer triangles, uses only one size triangle in its simple pattern, and less closely approximates a hemisphere. A 6V dome has many triangles of multiple sizes that are arranged in a complex pattern to create a more smooth and spherical shape.

I found the listing indicating number of pcs and lengths required but I wonder if this is end to end, center to center of hole, what is figured for flattening, etc. Galvanized pipe — Steel Schedule Is there a calculator for this or a math equation anyone knows of to do this. Waste on the Last Pipe after Cutting 0 Strut s :. Tunnel Dome 1 Ext. But this is significantly off the mark. For more information, click here. I have a structure kit i can use of steel which will work great and hold weight of clay. Hi Tim P. Dome Calculator 3V Oct. Thankyou for a great and needed site, Im considering a large geenhouse and after reading a few of the posts feel anyone wanting a large poly covered dome needs a 6v or 9v calculator so the openings dont flap in the wind. Using steel electrical conduit EMT for the frame, and a cover in some kind of vinyl tarp, glued or sewn.

Click here for assembly diagram. I can send photos. For a telephone order, call us at But this is significantly off the mark. Click here for assembly diagram Struts are vertex to vertex To connect together with bolts, you need to make them longer to drill holes in them. I made one out of polystirene and toothpicks but the angles were wrong. All of the other numbers will be automatically calculated. Do you plan to make a calculator for a 6v dome? I think if you were to bend at 8 degrees the difference would tighten up with the bolts. It has five years of constructed. I'm a professional builder who loves making things. I am looking to build a pipe hub with 2"x4" woooden struts.
