This guide explains the steps I took to make a Captain America costume. It took about 40 hours, spread out over the course of a month. This sounds like more time than it was, and a lot of that was experimentation, so don't let that scare you off. Although it was by no means easy, I actually started out with almost no sewing experience and learned how to sew over the course of this project. My point is that this project looks more challenging than it is. It's seventeen steps, but only because I tried to break it into steps which anyone with the necessary tools could probably do. In the past, I've made costumes by looking for garments at Goodwill, but I decided early on that there was no way I would find something suitable, so I set about planning how to make it from raw materials.

Marvel's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier introduces a new character taking up the Captain America mantle and his costume differs quite a bit from the ones Steve Rogers Chris Evans wore. Despite that, save for his Secret Avengers -inspired suit from Captain America: The Winter Soldier , the general design of his actual Captain America costume has been remarkably consistent over the years save for some cosmetic tweaks. Played by Wyatt Russell , John Walker, a. Agent, is now playing the part of the government-sanctioned and controlled Captain America, replacing Steve Rogers. Those unfamiliar with the comics may be thrown at how different his Captain America costume is; however, just as the MCU did with Steve's costumes, Walker's new costume is a modified version of the one he wears in the comics. The stark contrast in design is symbolic of what he's said to represent, what he actually represents, and of how different he is from Steve Rogers in terms of the man he is. It is a very different person wielding the shield now and his costume design reflects that. The most noticeable difference is the overall design. The majority of Steve's Captain America costumes which doesn't include his Nomad costume from Avengers: Infinity War have always had the same American flag aesthetic: Red and white striping on his midriff and the big white star on the blue background across his chest. John Walker's Captain America inverts that design with red stripes running horizontally across his all-blue torso, with his star being positioned high up on his chest near his right shoulder. That star also differs significantly from Steve's in that Walker's design finds the "A" and the star combined into one integrated logo on his suit and also on his helmet whereas Steve's were separated with the star on his chest and the "A" on his helmet. This is important as it visually signifies his story trajectory in the show. In the comics, John Walker publicly decried Steve Rogers as too old and too old-fashioned, declaring himself " America's future. The same goes for the integrated star.
The sleeves were made by stitching cloth and turning it inside out. In my opinion, this made a big difference.
