While he has used his symbiote to take over other heroes and even entire towns, Carnage has only bonded with a carnage symbiote few.
Carnage is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics , usually as an adversary of Spider-Man and the archenemy of Venom , in particular the Eddie Brock incarnation of the character, although Carnage and Venom have joined forces when their goals have aligned. The character made its first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man April , [2] and was created by writer David Michelinie and artist Mark Bagley , although the first published artwork of Carnage was penciled by Chris Marrinan. Carnage belongs to a race of amorphous parasitic extraterrestrial organisms known as Symbiotes , which form a symbiotic bond with their hosts and give them super-human abilities. Originating as an offspring of Venom, Carnage is much more powerful than its parent symbiote because of the symbiotes' biology, and is in many ways a darker version of him. Like Venom, Carnage has had multiple hosts over the years, but its most infamous one remains its first — killer Cletus Kasady , whose sadistic personality perfectly matches that of the symbiote.

One of the things that makes Carnage so dangerous seems to be the symbiote's ability to take over a host completely. Some people have managed to resist the Venom symbiote in the past, but the Carnage symbiote has a history of completely subsuming whoever it attaches to. This trait reached a new deadly level when Carnage created his very own Helhound. After Cletus Kasady abandoned the Carnage symbiote, the dangerous alien life-form went on a spiritual journey, of sorts, seeking to try and become a god. Part of this plan involved traveling to Svartalfheim and taking over one of the pups of Nyaz, the wolf goddess. As the issue made clear, the Carnage symbiote's demonstrated ability to completely take over a host makes no exception for divine beings. With the wolf pup completely under its control, Carnage created its very own Helhound, Spike, thus birthing one of the Marvel Universe's newest, most dangerous symbiotes. The Carnage symbiote is one of the deadliest characters ever to inhabit the Marvel Universe. Since the character was introduced as the "offspring" of Venom , it has in turn produced a number of off-shoots and variants, including Spike, as introduced in Venom 5. As an extension of Carnage, the symbiote Helhound is extraordinarily dangerous. Even as a dog, the puppy that became Spike was a cosmic being — giving its attached symbiote access to a level of power that only a few have ever been privy to. Together with Carnage, it proved to be an almost unstoppable force of devastation, proving its creation could have far-reaching consequences over time. There have been a few symbiotes that have taken the form of pets over the years, such as Dylan Brocks Sleeper symbiote. Spike is, however, by far the most terrifying of the symbiote "pets" ever seen in Marvel.
