There is a real community spirit at Cedar Tree Farm. When we visited, several events and competitions were being held to celebrate Easter, including an Easter Bonnet Parade for children. The bar serves a selection of the best beer brands in addition to a range of wines, spirits and soft drinks. Meanwhile, the menu features a seemingly endless choice of affordable pub food to suit all ages and tastes including burgers, pies, farmhouse grills, steaks, sandwiches, salads, jacket potatoes and classics like beer battered cod, macaroni cheese and chicken tikka masala. When we arrived, we were greeted at the entrance and escorted to a table of our choice. Our waiter was really friendly and helpful; he talked us through the menu and explained how to go about ordering our food. Instead of ordering your food at the table, you place and pay for your order at the bar, giving your table number. To start, I ordered the filo prawn twisters, served with a citrus mayonnaise. These were really impressive to look at. I expected them to be much smaller, but they were actually quite long, like thin carrots. The prawns were succulent and tender, while the batter was deliciously crispy. They tasted lovely dipped into the mayonnaise, which had a subtle hint of lemon. My guest opted for the prawn cocktail, traditionally served in a large open glass, with fresh prawns sitting on a bed of iceberg lettuce, slices of cucumber and a quartered salad tomato with a wedge of lemon, topped with Thousand Island dressing. It went down pretty well with my guest, although he would have liked a few more prawns.
