When I was on a train travelling through Denmark, I saw a little girl. She had very blonde hair and pointy eyes like an elf. She was colouring and sticking while she chatted non-stop her parents were trying very, very hard to read their books. When I got home from my trip I drew her as I remembered her in a little dress with trousers underneath. Then I tried to think of a story that would work with her character.

It focuses on the relationship between the two main brother and sister characters and how they deal with all the problems, enjoyment and other issues that crop up on an everyday basis. It is quite a challenge writing these books because they follow a very strict pattern; the subject is simple and always about the tiny things in life. Having raised five kids, I think I've heard all of this at some point or another. I Really Mean It! I think I like the book more having seen the series first, knowing how Charlie and Lola "speak" and reading the story with their accents in my mind.
