Porażka Johna Higginsa była zdecydowanie największą niespodzianką trzeciego dnia turnieju China Open. Czterokrotny mistrz świata przegrał z Jackiem Lisowskim i zaskakująco szybko pożegnał się z tegorocznymi zawodami odbywającymi się w Pekinie. Blisko przegranej był także Neil Robertson. Snookerzysta z Antypodów dogonił jednak rozpędzonego rywala i koniec końców to właśnie on mógł cieszyć się z awansu do następnej rundy. Ciężką przeprawę miał też Stuart Bingham, który również rozegrał komplet partii.

The China Open was a professional snooker tournament. It was one of a number of ranking tournaments and began in The final champion is Neil Robertson , who won the event in The first international snooker tournament in China was the China International in September , a non-ranking tournament for the top 16 players and local players. The following season the tournament became ranking and was held in March. Then the name of the event was changed to China Open and was held in December, so there were two events in After the tournament the event was abandoned. Local wild-card players were invited to play against the qualifiers. The three Chinese players on the tour were invited to play as wild-cards, rather than qualify the usual way. Ding Junhui was one of them, and he won the tournament, but as he entered as a wild-card, he received no prize money nor ranking points.

Neil Robertson won his second China Open title, and the 16th ranking title of his career, defeating Jack Lisowski 11—4 in the final. Mark Selby was the two-time reigning champion, having defended his title with an 11—3 win against Barry Hawkins in the final. Stuart Bingham made the highest break of the event, with his fifth break of his career in his second round match with Peter Ebdon.
