Men-At-Arms are an important part of gaining a military advantage over enemy factions in Crusader Kings 3. In addition to the Levies contributed by Vassals and ruled territories, players can also recruit specialist units via the Military tab, who will be much more combat-effective than similarly sized armies full of Levies. To start with, players will only have five Men-At-Arms regiment slots available, though this can eventually be expanded up to nine regiments with a variety of traditions, perks, and innovations. Siege Weapons have been omitted from the compositions, though these will be required in order to besiege and conquer any enemy settlements. Siege Weapons can travel as a separate army and only be brought in when necessary, or can be added by players once additional Men-At-Arms slots have been unlocked.

Please help with verifying or updating older sections of this article. At least some were last verified for version 1. An army is a large group of soldiers that can be controlled to attack other armies or siege a holding during wars. Based on its composition an army will be shown having a certain quality. After an army has completed half of a move order it becomes movement locked, meaning that it will not be able to receive orders until it arrives at its destination. Armies ordered to cross a sea zone will embark onto a fleet. Embarking costs Gold proportional to the army size. Levies are conscripted peasants that make up the bulk of all armies. They are not very impressive on their own, but are used in great numbers to complement more important troops. A Levy has 10 Damage and 10 Toughness. Levies have no cost when unraised, and have a monthly cost of 3 Gold per thousand when raised. Each army can have one Commander, a character who commands the army and uses its Martial skill to improve an army's Advantage. There are many different Commander traits available, which either have a direct effect on battles or give the Commander bonuses outside of battles. Each month a commander has a very low chance to die if its Health is not high enough and the commander doesn't have the commander trait matching the current terrain.

Each composition is useful for a variety of reasons, though players may be required to unlock several innovations and traditions , or occupy certain territories, before these units become available. As well as Regular Men-At-Arms regiments, there are also specialist Regional, Cultural, and Traditional units that can be unlocked throughout the game. While generally these units are more powerful, it is worth double-checking against other available regiments to see where strengths and weaknesses within an army may lie.

Back then I thought I could win my battles by outnumbering my opponents. Boy I was wrong. Know I have learned that the levy size is not that important. Battles won in Crusader Kings 3 with four key elements which are commander skill level, terrain, knights, and men-at-arms units. But men-at-arms can be optimized.

Supply reflects whether armies are properly provided with food and other necessities. You need 6 Skirmishers since you are countering 4 with the Elephants. Also, cultural man-at-arms, are all of them worth it? JavaScript is disabled. Konni are perhaps the most overpowered cavalry unit in the game, and can be unlocked with the Konni Raids tradition. Pikemen cultural variants can be good. Once you consider the rather strong bonus to toughness that pikemen get in hills, this is another reason why terrain is such a factor. Huscarls can be unlocked with either the Hirds or Coastal Warriors tradition, with Schiltron being available in the Late Medieval period to players with the Strong Kinship tradition. No longer constrained by the limits of levers and pulleys, these cannons can blast through fortifications with ease. Your approach would be valid, if the "buck" was the limiting factor. Cultural vs. How do you counter the Huscarls? This way, we can see their effectiveness regarding their cost a "best bang for your buck" approach. In the early patches, before the changes to MAA buffs from buildings, I was a big proponent of light cavalry. Peter Ebbesen said:. Jomsviking Pirates are used to counter enemy archers and infantry units, but will require players to complete certain events within the Northern Lords DLC to unlock them. The way the counter system works is based on the number of the counter present, so if you stack all on one type you will never be countered properly because the AI doesn't try to concentrate all its MAA on one counter type, it buys a variety. It is a pity, that now I can not express - it is very occupied. But I will return - I will necessarily write that I think.
