This presentation exposes the teaching experience that had the objective of propitiating the building of workable scenarios for the development of research projects in design, that approach different problem areas disadvantaged communities and groups. Projects that have the purpose of improving the life quality of the study population show the social role of design and its responsibility as a discipline framed into social sciences. These projects and the research experience support the creation of the Master in Design with focus on social projects of the Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia, and its research areas. An initial part of the theoretical support that substantiate projects of research and their area will be presented as well as the methods and approaches of social research and the principal techniques for collecting qualitative information that favored proximity with the study populations during the different research experiences. The presentation will include examples of some developed projects, describing the communities and the types of approach that are made to attend to their problems from the research in design, as well as the principal contribution that were achieved through experience with craft groups, disabled people and seniors. She did internships in research centers in Argentina, Mexico and Colombia and has been invited to participate in a national and international level as evaluator in research competitions and as lecturer in design and ergonomics events.
