To earn money for medical school , Egglesfield turned to modeling. He won a contest after entering at the urging of a friend, and left medicine behind for a modeling career.

Egglesfield plays a Chicago options trader who survives a family tragedy only to be kidnapped by a serial killer. The movie was shot in Chicago over three weeks. The following transcript has been edited for clarity and condensed for space. Compared to your past work, I thought this film was a little dark, maybe even a little depressing. What was it that drew you to this role? I feel like with my career, I kind of get pigeonholed into that leading man type of good guy role.

The All My Children star, 46, was diagnosed with testicular cancer in just months after he began his role as Josh Madden on the soap opera, he told Fox News in a new interview. A year into his initial diagnosis, Egglesfield shared, the doctors found that the cancer had spread to his other testicle despite going through surgery to remove it. Luckily, Egglesfield recovered — and has turned his story into a call to action, now volunteering with St. Egglesfield shared that he is able to easily relate to the children and families going through similar treatments. His work also inspired him to write his new book, Agile Artist: Life Lessons from Hollywood and Beyond , which details his health journey and was released in June.
