Reading the menu at Coogee Common randomly had me reminiscing about this show, only instead of an eclectic array of produce to play with, its chefs have access to possibly the best pantry in Perth. This restaurant has sqm of kitchen gardens in its massive historic grounds; a lush edible forest of produce and beehives that influences what diners will be nibbling on that week. There were different textures and colours at play on the plate, but pieced together its flavours fell a little flat and were underwhelming. Every bite was slightly different and delicious, depending on what herb or nut was on the fork. Verdict: One of the most relaxing and lovely venues to eat and drink in Perth, particularly if you can get a table outside.

The person Coogee Common takes this thoughtful approach to ingredients one step further with a serious kitchen garden growing vegetables, fruit, herbs and honey. The menu at Coogee Common reflects whatever gets cultivated on the day. Other potential offerings are rye crackers served with Manjimup trout rillettes and trout roe or broccoli rabe and charcoal-rosted lamb served over pappardelle. There are snacks — such as marinated olives and lupins; sliced, cured meats; and vegan and non-vegetarian share plates — and a daily counter meal.
Due to open in February, Coogee Common takes the ingredient-driven approach of its parent restaurant Bread in Common but doubles down with a sprawling kitchen garden. This event is your chance to be among the first diners to step inside the Coogee Common Kitchen Garden on a private tour and tasting with gardener Jack Olsen and chef Scott Branningan. The all-day tour begins with brunch straight from the garden before setting off on a tour and tasting. This immersive tour asks guests to get their hands dirty as they learn about the garden and pick the ingredients for dinner that Brannigan will cook later that night at Bread in Common. Dinner will be a long table, four-course dinner that will feature produce picked from the garden matched with local beers and wines.
