I've always been of the mindset that it's tacky and dishonest, but other content repurposers have told me I'm crazy and I should do it. One of the reasons I've always been against it is because I don't own the content. So the question becomes, when does the final thing become something new? Do we all get watermarks on the gif? Tacky AF. Also, watermarks almost always look awful. Take, for example, every image on Jim Henson's Red Book blog. They own the IP in a lot of cases except when it comes to Sesame Street and the Muppets , so they're entitled to protect it. But, on the other hand, it's not like they're putting out printable resolution photos that ebay stores can print and sell. They're too low resolution for that, so the watermark just ruins the image.
