The game is a remastered version of Crash Team Racing ctr racing, which was originally developed by Naughty Dog for the PlayStation inctr racing, and focuses on players using one of several characters from the Crash Bandicoot series to tackle races, each of which includes power-ups to help with combatting opponents.

It was the 4th installment in the Crash Bandicoot series and the last one to be developed by Naughty Dog. For the Japanese localization, the game was renamed Crash Bandicoot Racing. In the game's story, an egotistical space alien by the name of Nitros Oxide comes to Earth and challenges Crash Bandicoot , his friends and foes to a racing competition before facing himself, threatening to turn the world into a concrete parking lot if he wins. Crash Bandicoot , his friends and foes are preparing to enter a kart racing tournament. Unfortunately, a space alien named Nitros Oxide travels from far out space to Earth and offers a challenge to its inhabitants.

Crates with question marks on them hold power-ups and weapons, which can be obtained by driving through and breaking apart said crates. A crucial maneuver in Crash Team Racing is the power slide; the player executes the slide by holding down one of the shoulder buttons to perform a hop, and steering before the kart lands. The player can execute three speed boosts in a row during a power slide, with the third speed boost being more powerful than the previous two. The longer the player is in the air, the bigger the speed boost will be when the kart lands. In each mode, the player selects 1 from 8 characters to control. In the beginning of the game, the player only has access to two levels.

Despite a few seriously frustrating single-player races, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is a thrilling ride that keeps the excellent original game intact while adding some quality of life updates, such as an improved HUD, and obligatory modern trappings such as unlockable cosmetics. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled instantly transports me back to and the early s with its familiar tracks, cartoonishly bright colors, and ridiculous plot of stopping Nitros Oxide from turning Earth into a parking lot. But this remaster is far from stuck in the past: visually, it looks stunning with vivid details around every corner and animations that give each character plenty of personality. The ability to swap between characters during Adventure mode and the cosmetic options are welcome additions, and learning to master each of these 31 tracks proved to be a real challenge because of their frequent tight turns, competent though sometimes cheap competition from the AI.
