Whenever i open my inventory or the options menu while in game keep in mind this doesnt affect the main menu since it doesnt have the background it shows up normally. You have the grey background with your menu in the forground however, any time you try to back out of the menu the foreground goes away but the background remains, thus rendering the game inoperable and unplayable.
