Decoy is hidden below RedFarm's Hudson Street branch, its name a clue that it specializes in duck. Peking duck, actually, tender and moist with a Manhattan, NY, See Staten Island's premiere arts and cultural center. One of the oldest and largest nonprofit contemporary art institutions in the States constantly innovates with its exhibitions and events.
From the team behind RedFarm , Decoy is a Peking duck lair in the space directly below the popular West Village Chinese spot -- which formerly housed its temporary, underground steakhouse -- and now looks a bit like the basement of an artsy farmer who loves a good cocktail and expertly cooked, whole, crisp-skinned juicy ducks. You need to make a reservation because they only serve 24 ducks per night , but once you do, here's how it works: you get one whole duck automatically, and then you get to choose small plates, a side dish or veggie fried rice, and a main in different amounts no mains for two, or two mains for four, for example. Any way you do it, it's actually a pretty decent deal. Here it is, in all its splendor. The dish has a rich, sweet, meaty flavor with some chewiness from the cakes. This small plate is cold sweet potato noodle salad with Spring veggies.

RedFarm and Decoy both venues share the same menu; RedFarm is upstairs while Decoy is downstairs are not the place for the person that shows up in Chinatown at 11 AM, ready to battle it out with other people for the best shrimp dumplings from a rolling cart. To summarize this particular outing, both my father and I were amazed how good the food still is. I cannot find any fault in any of the dishes we ate. If anything I would comment, the speed of the dishes coming out from the kitchen reminds me of old school Chinese restaurants — it comes out in lighting speed — and I would prefer them to slow down a couple of beats so the food may be enjoyed more. Thin, pliable but strong enough to hold the filling while picking up the dumpling with chopsticks. The various fillings I forgot what they were admittedly were delicious. The creative or American influenced dishes of shrimp-stuffed crispy chicken and the pastrami egg roll. Both were unexpectedly delicious. The egg roll was super crispy without being greasy and the pastrami was flavorful. The chicken itself was moist and the coarse shrimp farce worked with the chicken texturally and flavor-wise.

Most of the space is occupied by a bar and a long communal table, and ducks make a strong showing in the decor as well as on the menu. Loved the five spice chicken dumpling, the lobster, the duck dumpling, and the tuna and eggplant bruschetta as well as the mezcal drink in the pineapple Cup. So do the cocktails.
