There are many My Hero Academia characters that parallel famous heroes and villains from American comics, but perhaps the most interesting is when two very different characters are blended into one--as is the case with Re-Destro and his fusion of Joker and Lex Luthor. Re-Destro, also known as Rikiya Yotsubashi, is the CEO of a major company called Detnerat, which develops support items that help people to better control and use their quirks. While support items have primarily been seen developed for and used by licensed heroes, there are other varieties of support items that can be used by civilians, mostly to control and limit accidental activation. This isn't quite the case for Detnerat, however. Rikiya is secretly the leader of the Meta Liberation Army , a villainous group who believes that freely using quirks is a human right, and that these laws restricting quirk use to heroes alone are an unjust infringement on that right. While Detnerat operates legally, producing custom support items to meet their clients' demands, Rikiya is also using the Meta Liberation Army to invoke change in society towards the treatment of quirks. Surely, it's a coincidence that more quirk use would also equal more demand for support items.
