Today I come to you with a review of the book "The Hunger Games". In the fictional state of Panem, set in the former North America, the inhabitants of the capital city have been organising the "Hunger Games" for many years. This is an annual tournament in which two representatives from each of the twelve districts are forced to fight to the death in an arena. In the final district, sixteen-year-old Katniss helps her younger sister and heartbroken mother, until she volunteers to take part in the Games. This book is definitely different from the ones I have read so far. With an amazingly created world, colourful characters and an action-packed, mind-blowing plot, I couldn't tear myself away from reading. I found it a little creepy that people were watching the inhabitants of the districts fighting each other to the death as a form of entertainment. I was particularly taken aback by the description of the games, the arena and the various traps waiting for the tributes. I really liked the main character as she embodies qualities such as independence, resourcefulness, determination, loyalty and intelligence. Of course, we also can't forget the character of the male tribune, Peeta Mellark, who was against violence and aggression from the very beginning. It seems to me that he understood and saw more than the rest of the characters. Also, I think that each character brings something unique to the story. I read the book long after its phenomenon began and I wish I had done so sooner! It is labeled as a young adult book, but will definitely delight readers of all ages!
