As a result of his decision, the Donquixote Family left Mary Geoise and made their way to the North Blue to live the rest of their lives in peace. Doflamingo was upset by this decision as he no longer had slaves or the power he once had. After living among the civilians, the Donquixote Family were tracked down as pariah and were constantly attacked. By the age of eight, Doflamingo's mother died from an illness. At one point after Doflamingo's mother's death, Doflamingo, Rosinante, and Homing were captured by the civilians and tortured. The civilians felt that by torturing them they would avenge their loved ones who were victims of the Celestial Dragons. Despite the situation, Doflamingo did not beg or give and threaten to kill all of them, as the torturers and his family were shocked by his willpower. Doflamingo then unleashed his conqueror's haki to knock out the civilians and escape with his brother and father.

He wore the typical garb of a World Noble during his tenure at Mary Geoise : a thick white suit with medal-like knobs on it, and a blue collar. After renouncing his status, Homing lowered his hair from the World Noble style, and switched to ordinary fine clothes, consisting a simple cyan dress shirt, dark pants with a light green cravat. His garments became increasingly tattered and dirty whilst living on the run in the North Blue. Unlike the typical World Nobles, Homing did not show any sign of arrogance or cruelty and viewed himself as a human being, like all normal people.

Just before his son pulled the trigger, Homing apologized for not being a better father for his children.
