Doctor Neo Periwinkle Cortex [2] is a character and the main antagonist of the Crash Bandicoot video game series. He has appeared in every mainline game in the series as Crash Bandicoot 's archenemy , as well as a playable character in several spin-off titles. Cortex is an egomaniacal mad scientist who seeks to achieve world domination with the use of the Evolvo-Ray, a machine capable of creating genetically enhanced soldiers from ordinary animals. Brio, Cortex then fights Crash on his airship, with him shooting energy beams from his ray gun and Crash dodging and redirecting them towards Cortex, then the scientist falls from his hoverboard into a cave, where he lits a match and finds a crystal , Cortex laughs and plans to use the crystals to have his revenge on Crash, the match goes out and he's left in the dark.

Neo Cortex is usually the last boss of the games in the Crash Bandicoot series , appearing as such in all but in Crash Twinsanity where Cortex is the first boss and later used by the player , Crash of the Titans where Cortex is the first boss and Crash Bandicoot 2: N-Tranced , where he is not a boss due to only appearing in the multiplayer games.
