Doctor Fatedr fates helmet, also known as Fate or collectively as Fate's Legacy[7] is the name of several superheroes appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics.

The Helmet of Nabu , also known as the Fate Helmet , is a golden helmet which can bond with humans to create a powerful being. The helmet lets the spirit of Nabu , to possess its user, granting incredible magical powers. It was later used by the metahuman Cameron Mahkent to grant him similar superpowers, and later bonded with Chloe Sullivan , allowing her to see the futures of Oliver Queen and Clark Kent. The mask itself appears to be sentient, often speaking in low whispers to people, offering advice, knowledge and even magical abilities such as teleportation. The Helmet of Nabu is an extremely powerful artifact that requires a human host for its powers and abilities to be activated. Without a host, the helmet is still sentient, but mostly dorment. Even by itself, the helmet is capable of limited movement and is apparently clairvoyant, as it once stared back at Clark when he used his X-ray vision to look into the bag it was in.

Comic books are fraught with mystical threats, and to combat these dark forces there are almost always heroes who fight with magic more than might. There are always going to be those who stand tall above the rest, that command a level of respect by their title alone. For Marvel, this is the Sorcerer Supreme, a mantle which is most often associated with Stephen Strange, but which has been passed along from time to time. In the DC Universe , the title of Doctor Fate embodies the righteous side of the mystic arts, but that title has moved around a lot over the years. So much, in fact, that it's about time for a refresher on those who have worn the helm of Doctor Fate , at least those most well associated with it. The original Doctor Fate, Kent Nelson traveled with his father on archaeological expeditions. On one of these adventures, the two unearthed the ancient alien Nabu from an underground pyramid. A trap killed Kent's father, Sven, and so Nabu took the boy in as an apprentice of sorts, teaching him the secrets of the universe. Eventually, Nabu would gift Kent with a mystical amulet, cloak, and helmet, through which he would become Doctor Fate. Once Eric understood that he was the next in line to act as the host for Nabu's power and agreed to take on the role, Nabu aged the boy to adulthood through magic and began his training as Doctor Fate.

Following the events of the Flashpoint mini-series inDC's continuity was rebooted.

During the finale of Black Adam , the superhero Doctor Fate dies and leaves behind his helmet, which evaporates into particles and disappears. Nelson uses his powers to determine that the only way to beat the demon king Sabbac is to sacrifice himself, leaving his helmet behind for Hawkman's use before it disappears, ending Black Adam on a bittersweet note. The meaning behind Doctor Fate's helmet's disappearance is a little vague, but by looking at the comics and the little bits of info that are given in Black Adam , the rules of the magical helmet can be determined. Early in the film, Justice Society members Atom Smasher and Cyclone are discussing Fate's helmet, with it being mentioned that the helmet chooses who is able to touch it. This is proven when Hawkman uses the helmet after Fate's death, as the helmet allows the hero to use his powers, with it only disappearing later. Unlike other magical items like Mjolnir, which measures users on worthiness, the criteria for the use of Doctor Fate's helmet isn't clearly laid out in Black Adam. This leaves a lot of questions open, including why Hawkman was able to use it, where the helmet went, and who will be the next Doctor Fate.

He serves as a calmer presence throughout the movie, providing the JSA with a more cautious outlook while Hawkman continually attempts to defeat Black Adam in physical combat. In the comics, Doctor Fate is a founding member of the Justice Society, and Black Adam sets Kent Nelson up as a retired member of the team who is coming back to help with one last job. Based on historical movie tropes around retired heroes and their last mission, it might not be ultimately surprising that Doctor Fate dies in Black Adam. After having a vision that shows Hawkman dying in the final Black Adam fight, Doctor Fate blocks the rest of the Justice Society from entering the palace ruins in Kandaq to fight Sabbac himself. In doing so, it seems that he is able to prevent his vision from coming to pass. However, doing so requires Kent Nelson dying, a fact that Doctor Fate appeared to be fully aware of when he goes to fight Sabbac. However, that does not necessarily explain the explicit happiness that Kent Nelson seems to experience about his death.

Some of them are minor, some of them are major. Today, we look at how a Doctor Fate tryout issue retconned the character's entire Golden Age history. First Issue Special with the title designed as 1st Issue Special was a novel concept that DC Publisher Carmine Infantino came up in the mids based on the idea that, by the s, the first issues of comic book series always sold the best, so why not a whole SERIES of first issues? That, of course, doesn't really make a lot of sense since people tend to prefer to pick up the first issue of ONGOING books, not just one-shot stories , but whatever, the order was put down to then-new DC editor Gerry Conway, so he worked on getting features for the series, which would work like a new version of DC's Showcase , where characters would get a shot with a "first issue" and then, if people liked it, then they could turn the idea into an actual ongoing series. However, there were some notable new characters and revamps of classic characters in the series.
