P error code. Thread Tools. Need an opinion on where to start for a P error. When it occured, got a check engine light and a Stability Control Light on but they when away on restart. Engine untill turned off was obivious that it had a problem with a whole engine miss stumble when pulling away. Problem occured coasting to a red light. Normal maintenance has always been done. First engine problem ever. Oil has apx mile and 4 months on it but looks clean. Normally change at
Oil was replaced with millers 5W miles ago. Also, is the vtc actuator a reusable part?

So, it is likely that you are wondering what the problem is if your mechanic has pulled code P from your car. In the case of a Honda Accord, diagnostic code P means the variable valve timing control advance is malfunctioning. The error code you receive sounds pretty severe, so what should you do if you see it? Controlling the intake camshaft phase is done through the variable valve timing control system VTC. The valve timing can be optimized based on driving conditions using oil pressure to operate the VTC actuator. The diagnostic trouble code DTC is stored if there is an over-advanced camshaft phase compared with the directed value or if the camshaft phase is otherwise abnormal. The VTC system controls camshaft oil intake. By providing optimal engine efficiency and performance, the VTC system can maximize engine performance.

We recommend Torque Pro. How much each valve will be opened is determined by the camshaft and the profile of its lobes. So, when designing the engine, the manufacturers must choose between the lowdown torque or the power output at high engine speeds. This is at least so when the ratio between the camshafts and crankshaft is fixed. Engines with variable valve timing, though, combine the best of both worlds, so to say. They do this by incorporating a mechanism that advances or retards camshafts rotation depending on driving conditions.

Find all posts by 04AccordinIL. For days it was okay but this morning the error occured again. Oil changes completed per maintenance schedule since we purchased the vehicle with 90, miles on it except for once this winter. Someone I trust is coming over tomorrow to run diagnostics on it. May just cut one on that cover since I have the material and RTV. Quote message in reply? No I don't know what you can expect for fees to do the job, I try to stay away from the numbers. The diagnostic trouble code DTC P in Honda vehicles is an indication of an issue related to the timing control of the variable valve system. The VTC system plays a crucial role in determining the opening of the intake camshaft, effectively managing the amount of oil that flows into the camshaft.
I suspect if a timing problem were present it may reset the code shortly after startup according to the info I sent in the PM. It actually looks a little different. Again, pull the valve cover and then spin the crank to TDC and check the cam chain marks to see if it has jumped. What is the lowest mileage you have seen with this being necessary? Any help appreciated. Got a new battery in May and it was going dead overnight. Also the two timing marks on the exhaust chain wheel and intake VTC wheel should match up. This happens when your oil is contaminated and clogs the strainers in the components and oil pressure is not available. Reading the EOC, I know that it might take a few cycles for it to get cleared so I wasn't stressed about it, especially considering that I had just filled the tank yesterday and made sure that I clicked the cap about 4 times. Received Likes on Posts. The Scangauge told me that once again, it was the same P trouble code that I had before. I have to get some liquid gasket sealer. Colored links are only relevant during initial installation, so ignore those and refer to THREE timing marks: two cam marks and the crank mark. Problem occured coasting to a red light.
Certainly. I join told all above. We can communicate on this theme. Here or in PM.
