She's been the driving force behind the growth of Nineball pool, but Matchroom supremo Emily Frazer is far from done in her quest to promote niche sports around the world. Emily Frazer was working as a Matchroom floor manager, huddled around a pool table in the Philippines with plus fans, when the penny dropped. The public interest in the sport's World Cup event was clearly there. The exposure, clarity, and management around it however, all represented a badly missed opportunity. And Frazer wasn't about to let things slide any longer. At that point, Matchroom multi-sport were running just three pool events a year - the World Cup, Masters, and iconic Mosconi Cup. But with viewership on the increase, Frazer decided it was time to "think outside the box," and learn from the growth of other sports. I said we need more content. The US Open went up for grabs and we acquired that. Fast forward to now and the company is running 10 annual Nineball events at locations around the world. And Frazer, who since July was been managing director of Matchroom Multi Sport, explained that providing clarity to fans has been instrumental in the success. We were getting lost when we were trying to pitch the events to broadcasters and sponsors. A system where they can earn ranking points to get into the Mosconi Cup and get seeded for the World Championships. Current focus will be on the latter event, with the version taking place in Poland next month. But Frazer's ambition to revolutionise is not confined to pool alone: "We take these niche sports, like ping pong, fishing, ten pin bowling, pool, netball, gymnastics, and we turn them into entertainment.

Emily Frazer has been appointed as managing director of Matchroom Multi Sport, which launched this week. The new firm, previously a department within Matchroom Sport before becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of the promotion company, will continue to manage events across a range of sports. Frazer takes up her now role having been at Matchroom for more than decade, most recently as chief operating officer of Matchroom Multi Sport prior to its reincarnation. Also joining Matchroom Multi Sport are Nick Teale as head of media and marketing, Abigail Kalikwani as operations manager, Jake Asby as social and digital media manager, and Phoebe Milham as events assistant. Very few entrepreneurs start off life with a captive market. So it is for Matchroom Multi Sport. Pool, fishing, gymnastics and tenpin bowling do not necessarily generate huge audiences organically, as Frazer admitted.

We are led by Government advice and restrictions and therefore events may continue to be rescheduled; the pool calendar will be disrupted due to broadcaster scheduling and venue availability but we will take each day as it comes and continue to inform you all of any changes. We started the year on a great high with the Matchroom World Rankings, however there is now a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Mosconi team selections. Whilst no decisions have been made, we intend to adjust the process and will do so in a way we see fit and fair for all players.

As someone who prides herself in her work ethic and her commitment to always learning and growing, she believes hard work should always trump any other factor.
