Souls is a side quest in which the player character searches for the twenty souls with the Net of Souls talent. Without the talent, the souls are invisible and can't be collected. The souls are needed by phasmalists to make talismans, which can then be used to Summon an apparation , which can aid the player in combat. The tutorial and side quest Introduction to Phasmalism will guide the player to the first soul when Net of Souls is unlocked. There are of each soul level, four souls being available who have skills and attributes for an allrounder, mage rogue or warrior. Soul gems , or Pyrean crystals, are used to trap the soul of any creature with a white soul. Like in Skyrim, white souls vary in strength from petty to grand, with five soul gems of different capacity in total and they can be acquired from creatures. For example, it's possible to fill a common soul gem with either an lesser or petty soul, while a greater or a grand soul can't be stored in common or soul gem of lesser quality. The empty soul gems have to be filled a soul by the player, while filled ones are ready to be used for enchanting equipment, recharging enchanted weapons or creating phasmalist amulets, which will consume the soul and the gem in the process. Apart from white souls, there are also black souls, which are souls only posessed by men and mer in Enderal. These can only be captured with a Black Soul Gem. Empty soul gems can be acquired by either buying them, finding them or mining blue-glowing shadow ore veins. Most glowing shadows give a random soul gem whenever one vein is mined.
