Final Fantasy 16 tells the epic story of how humanity defies its fate as tools for the despotic god Ultima to use to create his paradise. As we follow Clive on his journey to destroy the Mothercrystals and end Ultima's reign, we learn a lot about Valisthea and the land's magic. Final Fantasy 16's ending is open-ended and ambiguous. While there are elements that definitely happen, much of the ending is open to interpretation. Below, we'll break down what exactly happens at the end of the game, as well as the post-credit scene.

The title developed by Square Enix marks a new installation in the classic RPG franchise, now leaning toward real-time action rather than its traditional turn-based combat. The protagonist quickly discovers that he is, in truth, the Dominant of Ifrit, which causes a tragic event and sees him exiled. As a mercenary operating away from his home, the hero will see himself directly involved with the multiple wars that plague the land of Valisthea. All the fights happen for the same reasons: nations dispute full control over the aether-abundant Mothercrystals spread across the continent. Ultima came to the planet in search of a large amount of aether and a being capable of absorbing Eikons — in this case, Clive. During the ending of Final Fantasy 16 , it is learned that the Mothercrystals in Valisthea are actually aspects of Ultima that were separated from its main body in order to harvest aether from the land. Only by destroying them would the harvested aether be returned to the creature. This is when Ultima rips a piece of itself from within Joshua, severely injuring him. This empowers Ultima to its maximum potential and sees Joshua weakened. Seeing his demise, Joshua then passes his Phoenix over to Clive, who is able to absorb it.

Even if the majority of people were to say that Clive died, ff16 end, it would be perfectly reasonable to believe the opposite. Having gone through so much and gaining a better understanding of everything that ff16 end before, Clive realizes that in order for humanity to be saved from the Blight, magic must be eliminated entirely.

Clive Rosfield's journey from young, budding swordsman to world-saving hero is about to reach its conclusion, but there are still many loose ends to tie up. The enemies that Clive and his allies face in Valisthea are not quite done just yet, and as the game charges towards its conclusion like an empowered Eikon clashing with another, things will only get wilder. Long ago, the god Ultima and his kin created magic. It allowed them to flourish, but it also came at a price: the world-destroying Blight. The gods were powerless to stop it, and so sixteen survivors fled to a new world: Valisthea. But the Blight followed them to this new land, and so the gods realised there was only one option: to build a whole new world. Casting the spell to create this new world would require a huge amount of magical power, and a vessel strong enough to wield it. To acquire the vessel, they created humanity.

Thankfully, in his quest to find out more about Ultima, Joshua eventually stumbles onto the full picture in Waloed, where it reveals that unlike Garuda, Ramuh, Shiva, Titan, Bahamut, Odin, and the lost Leviathan, the Phoenix and Ifrit are different beings altogether, and this is the key to everything. Joshua uses the flames of the Phoenix to heal Clive , further draining his already dwindling power. Washing up on a beach somewhere, Clive looks up at the sky and senses the fading of his own magic before supposedly meeting his end. I assume that he writes it under Joshuas name in order to - honor his fallen brother, who saved him and Dude was clearly deader than a door nail. While this plan was put into motion, it still required plenty of time. Again, you could theoretically have multiple interpretations here. Ultima's echoes return to the main body, causing the portion trapped in Ultima to escape and leaving Joshua unable to continue. Seeing his demise, Joshua then passes his Phoenix over to Clive, who is able to absorb it. What is more curious, however, is that the author of the book is Joshua Rosfield. As for the latter, the gods created humanity in the hope that as time passes, the vessel known as Mythos will be born. With enough aether, all Ultima requires now is Mythos to cast its nefarious spell.

For reference, this is the same way that the Branded die when they use an excessive amount of aether. First, a staggering amount of magic needs to be amassed, and second, a vessel needs to exist to wield the magic. No matter how much you dig, you won't find a definitive answer that says whether Clive lived or died on the beach. So while Clive is able to heal Joshuas body, Joshua has been dead for too long at that point and his spirit is gone. The enemies that Clive and his allies face in Valisthea are not quite done just yet, and as the game charges towards its conclusion like an empowered Eikon clashing with another, things will only get wilder. Final Fantasy 16's ending is open-ended and ambiguous. Inside, the three use their Eikons to create a massive explosion. I assume that he writes it under Joshuas name in order to - honor his fallen brother, who saved him and Of course, the protagonist has other ideas, with the players helping to put an end to these dastardly plans. After many generations this new race would eventually produce the Mythos; a human capable of harnessing unimaginable power.
