Fire chief for the County of Grande Prairie, Everett Cooke, said there were about 45 people, including pilots, working to fight the fire back Saturday afternoon. The blaze is on the south side of the county and residents have been advised to stay away from the area. He added that the blaze was about 20 hectares in size but was being knocked back by aircraft efforts.

Posted on Thu, Feb 22, A fire advisory is in effect for the Grande Prairie Forest Area section of the Forest Protection Area due to drying conditions and high wind. Under this advisory: Existing fire permits are still valid. New permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis, only for essential burning. Prohibited: Any burning without a valid fire permit, other than a campfire. Never leave a campfire unattended. Soak it, stir it and soak it again until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished. When operating equipment, clear debris from moving parts, check your muffler and keep equipment in good repair. Do not operate equipment in tall grass. Keep watch of your surroundings and ensure you have sufficient firefighting equipment and water available. Equipment fires or work-related sparks, friction and hot exhaust can cause even small amounts of dry fuels to ignite into a wildfire. If you see a wildfire, report it immediately by calling FIRE. This fire advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.

Seven wildfires have been reported in the Grande Prairie forest area, with three currently considered out of control, four are under control. The largest fire burning in the area is located approximately kilometres south of the City of Grande Prairie near Nose Mountain Road. The fire has burned 15 hectares, and Alberta Wildfire says heavy equipment has completed a guard around the fire with five firefighters and a helicopter and a water delivery vehicle. The second wildfire is burning out of control further east of the Nose Mountain fire, about five kilometres north of Deep Valley Cabin.
