This small restaurant, nestled in a pink year-old building on Saint-Urbain Street, is a multi-sensory experience like no other in the neighbourhood.

The resulting space—housed in an instantly recognizable dusty pink 19th-century home—puts food prep stations at the center of the dining room, ensuring that those plating the chicken nanban , chirashi sushi, and katsudon feel like part of the service team. The 10 or so employees often rotate duties, so that those serving one night might be rolling sushi or scrubbing dishes the next.

Fleurs et Cadeaux's an all-new Chinatown arrival coupling Japanese snack bar takeout with playlists—plus plans for speakeasy-style listening bar in its basement. Located inside of what once housed a gift shop of the same name, Fleurs et Cadeaux's building has roots stretching back to the s, and most lately had been a flower and trinket shop for the last 30 years. They've kept the facade and colour to pay homage to the neighbourhood minus a fresh coat of paint , giving the whole place a bit of a speakeasy vibe. Schmidt says that the Fleurs et Cadeaux team had planned the project as early as January, but with the financial upheavals and construction delays caused by the pandemic prevented the restaurant and bar from manifesting in their previously planned timeline.
