Florans are a playable race in Starbound. They are plant-like beings that are known to be extremely hostile and tribal despite their peaceful physique. They are a unisex race , and are prone to war with rival factions — be it by conservation or tradition is currently unknown. They are very skilled at reverse-engineering stolen technology from curious explorers. The introduction of space travel to the primitive Florans by the Avian had the undesired effect of Floran colonies spanning across star systems, each with their own customs and levels of aggression. Despite this, individual Florans have been known to split apart from their society to lead their own lives in isolation or in the solace of other races, at the cost of being cut off from the collective and considered enemies of Flora for good. Cannibalism during funeral rituals and wars with rival factions are commonplace, though it remains unclear whether it's out of conservation or simple tradition.

I absolutely love it, steam says I have over hours. I love the lore of the starbound universe and I think I have read all the lore codexes, and love using the inspect function of the different races to get little snippets of their lore and culture. I love the florans and their lore. However I noticed some of the dialogue in the nightly seems to contradict floran lore. Chucklefish themselves have mentioned how florans are expansionist, and how their society is a sort of collective.

Plant-based humanoids, they are extremely violent carnivores with no central government or power structure, split into numerous tribes spread across the universe, each led by a Greenfinger. Their speech is often simplistic, and they tend to hisss their sibilantsss. Their primary drives are hunting, acquiring trophies, fighting, eating meat, and more hunting. It is speculated that their general casual view towards killing and consuming other intelligent species stems from not viewing "meat" as "alive" in the same sense they are. A relatively young race, they have primitive technology but are incredibly adept at scavenging and—thanks to the Greenfingers' unique gifts—reverse-engineering other races' tech, much to the universe's chagrin.
